| Monitoring the abundance of green turtles (Chelonia mydas) is necessary to assess population trends and risks of collapse. This note presents a study aimed at comparing three techniques for the direct estimation of green turtle numbers in their foraging habitats (seagrass beds and reef flats). The experiment was carried out at Mayotte Island, Western Indian Ocean. The techniques involved were surveys by snorkel, and aerial surveys using a microlight aircraft and a paramotor. | The impact of the fishing effort exerted by a vessel on a population depends on catchability, which depends on population accessibility and fishing power. The work investigated whether the variation in fishing power could be the result of the technical characteristics of a vessel and/or its gear or whether it is a reflection of inter-vessel differences not accounted for by the technical attributes. These inter-vessel differences could be indicative of a skipper/crew experience effect. | La DMSOI de Mayotte a sollicité l'avis de l'Ifremer sur un projet d’Arrêté Préfectoral de fermeture à titre expérimental, de la pêche au poulpe sur la zone de platier récifal jouxtant la commune de Pamandzi à Mayotte. L’Assemblée Municipale avait délibéré dès janvier 2018 sur la nécessité d’une fermeture concertée de la pêche au poulpe sur sa commune. La DMSOI a ainsi considéré la nécessité de mettre en œuvre une gestion durable de la pêche au poulpe pour favoriser son repeuplement sur le littoral de la commune de Pamandzi, en expérimentant une mesure de repos biologique de la date de parution de l'arrêté jusqu'au 1er juin 2018. |

| A diagnosis of recreational fisheries is carried out each year on the reef flat area of the Hermitage / La Saline managed by the Natural Marine Reserve of Reunion. The evolution of beach seine, fishing-rod and stick fishing activities, in terms of fishing effort and catch was analyzed. The status of exploited stocks differs according to the fishing technique. | This study summarizes the results of the processing and analysis of data from illegal fisheries, apprehended by the eco-guards of the Marine Natural Reserve of Reunion from 2015 to 2017 (including the first dataset from 2018). These information are valued in terms of fisheries and bioecological knowledge for reef fish species. Thus, both diversity and abundance indices, size structures, growth parameters, stock characterization, can be apprehended from the biological parameters collected on all the species caught because they often do not exist : the sizes, weights, sexes, maturities, scales, otoliths, stomach contents as well as genetic and isotopic samples. | The brilliant pomfret (Eumegistus illustris) occurs in the western part of the Indian Ocean and the western and central Pacific Ocean. To date, the biology of E. illustris has never been documented. The aim of the present study was to investigate age and growth of E. illustris along the coasts of Reunion Island, based on calcified structures analysis. | Les diagnostics des peuplements de poisson d’intérêt halieutique et des principaux stocks mettent en évidence des états contrastés à Mayotte en 2017. A l’échelle des peuplements, toutes espèces confondues, aucun signe patent d’un état non satisfaisant lié à la pression de pêche exercée n’a été observé. | We studied the foraging rhythms of green sea turtles Chelonia mydas on the seagrass beds of N'Gouja Bay, Mayotte Island (Comoros Archipelago) with acoustic transmitters and moored listening stations. We monitored 8 tagged turtles (4 probable males, 3 probable females and 1 immature), from 70 to 109 cm curved carapace length (CCL), for durations ranging from 5 to 92 d. The turtles exhibited a regular diel pattern: they foraged mainly during the day (on average 87% of seagrass detections were between 06:00 and 18:00 h) and rested on the inner reef slope during the night. | Identification of potential juvenile grounds of short-lived species such as European sardine (Sardina pilchardus) in relation to the environment is a crucial issue for effective management. In the current work, habitat suitability modelling was applied to acoustic data derived from both the western and eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea.
